Future Directions in Network Synchronization Strategies
A major component of any synchronization and timing strategy is the source of synchronization. Currently GPS has emerged as the "best" such source, providing UTC-traceable sync just about everywhere. Galileo is a proposed satellite constellation that can augment, or even supplant, GPS and is positioned to provide a variety of other services as well. Galileo is the subject of Chapter 1. Subsequent chapters will address other items of interest including additional reference sources and methods of distribution of sync.
