Taking Courses
Course Descriptions
To begin a course, click on a course from the course list table on your student homepage. From there, if you have access to the course, you can begin the course by clicking on the button at the bottom of the description. You can read all of the course descriptions at any time, even before you register.
One course at a time
In order for us to be able to track your progress throughout the university, and to give you the best possible student experience, we require that you only take one course at a time. You do not need to remember this, however. The programming behind Sync University will restrict you from beginning a new course until you have finished your current course. You are not required, however, to take the Sync U courses in order. You may begin with whichever course captures your interest.
Last and Next buttons
When you start a course, you will begin on the introduction page. This page will welcome you to the course and remind you to read through the objectives, overview and syllabus. As you proceed through the course, use the NEXT button on the top and bottom right hand side of the page to navigate to the next page and the LAST button to go backward to re-read course material if necessary. If you are required to fill out a form or cannot go back to the last page, that option will be unavailable.
Course Graphics
Buttons will appear on pages that have related graphics. Clicking on a figure button will bring up a pop-up window with the graphic that is referred to in the text. You may leave this window open as you navigate through the pages if you would like to keep referring to the graphic, or you may close the window. You may open multiple graphics windows at a time, but keep in mind, if you are running on a lower-end system, multiple windows may crash your computer.
Taking the Exam
There is a 10 question final exam at the end of most courses that tests your understanding of the course material. The questions are intended to be relatively easy given the material. If you find you are having a hard time with the questions, and have read the course material to the best of your ability, please note this in the course evaluation so that we can adjust the difficulty level of the exam or make the material more clear.
Evaluating the Course
The course evaluation is a very important feedback mechanism for students. The evaluation gives you a chance to tell us a variety of things about the course you took, from your overall experience to the type of browser you are using. Please answer as many of the questions as you can and be as honest as possible. All of your comments are completely anonymous and will only be used to better mold these courses to your needs. The more you tell us the more we'll have to work with when we write new courses.
Pass or Fail
A passing grade in Sync University is a 60% or above on the final exam. Anything below 60% is considered a failing grade.
Certificate of Completion
If you receive a 60% or above on the final exam, you are entitled to a certificate of completion for that course. After completion of the course, you will see a link on your student homepage (next to the course name) allowing you to print out a personalized course completion certificate.
Retaking a course
If you do not receive a 60% or above on a course, you may retake the course. Clicking on the RETAKE COURSE button on the final page will clear all of your course information and you may then retake the course at your leisure (you need not retake the course immediately).
Continuing to the next Course
If you received a 60% or higher on the course, or if you choose not to retake the course, clicking on the CONTINUE button on the final page will take you back to your student homepage, and clear your current course record so that you may choose a new course. The course you have just completed will change from a blue color to a green color in the course list.
