QUESTION: In regard to synchronization signals jitter and wander specifications: In G.823 and G.824, there is a full clause 6 (in both standards) dealing with synchronization interface requirements for E1 and DS1 respectively. Do the G.811 to G.813 standards contain also this information? If not, what do G.823 and G.824 synchronization requirements stand for?

ANSWER: Keep in mind that G.811 deals with outputs of primary clocks, and G.812 deals with outputs of slave clocks. That is, these deal with the outputs of timing signal generators as opposed to traffic carrying signals. G.813 deals with slave clocks in SDH equipment. G.823 and G.824 generically deal with 2.048/1.544 Mbps based hierarchical equipment and therefore are related to traffic carrying signals between Network Elements.
